Why is Backpack a 3D marketplace when there are so many?

Anyone that has worked in architecture, on making a video game, a VFX shot, a mockup for a product, a virtual or augmented reality experience, or any other work that required some form of 3D, may have run into a set of classic problems: 1) not enough time to model everything 2) not enough skill to model more complicated geometries 3) some assets aren’t commercially licensable 4) need to rig models 5) need to handle client revisions 6) downloaded assets have flipped normals, incorrect meshes, no unwrapped textures, weird grouping, etc…. The problems start to snowball and the anxiety and stress to make something beautiful derails a project.

While there are a lot of 3D model marketplaces out there, a lot of them have complicated licenses (and often a separate license for each 3D model), the quality of the 3D models available is honestly… not great; and sometimes the prices are ridiculously high, and unless you are working for a firm, agency, or big company, it’s hard to download more than 5 models before breaking the bank. Furthermore, a lot of these marketplaces are just about the assets… with no care towards promoting the artist, their career, their profile and their potential. Some of these marketplaces are starting to (or have plans to) introduce AI into their platforms. The craziest part is that none of them are planning to compensate the artists! Enough is enough. It’s time to be ethical, it’s time to be fair, it’s time to think and care for the artists.

In contrast, Backpack is a marketplace made up of artists, by artists, for all. We take a completely different approach than other marketplaces by making sure this is a discovery platform and a fair compensation marketplace with a simple-to-use license. Artists get to show their personality (if they want to), make money for participating in the marketplace (even if their assets don’t sell), and will be compensated by the AI derivatives from their work. This is a revolutionary approach to marketplaces and generative AI.

So, back to the question: Why is Backpack providing a 3D marketplace when there are so many already? The answer is quite simple. Backpack is better.
